[Fo]XMarks Packs More Punch

Not long back, I was wondering whether Foxmarks was going to do anything with all the bookmarks it was accumulating. Now they have :) Along with their name change to Xmarks, they have added a search and scrutiny function that looks very promising.

With the updated addon you now get much needed help with Google Search. Popular Foxmarked sites now appear with a blue information icon alongside the other Google retrievals. I wonder how search-optimizers will work their way around this one?

By mousing over the icon you get a Snap-like pop up that gives a page visual and the chance to get a description of the site by clicking the "get site info" button underneath.

From there you are able to read reviews of the site and seek out similar ones - kind of like StumbleUpon. In fact, if you look up Xmarks on Google and use this new tool, you will see that StumbleUpon is listed as a "similar site." Other features include a rating system and list of tags (which when you click on gives even more depth to a search).

I don't know how, if at all, this will affect Delicious and Diigo, but I bet you they are watching closely.

Now, if you really want to create an all in one tool, the one feature that I think is long overdue is the ability to sync addons. I have used other tools in the past which attempt to do this, but they were quite clumsy and time consuming. Maybe I should search for one with the help of Xmarks!
