Google Sketchup's Grade 3 Gallery Owners

I've been using Google Sketchup as a K-12 virtual playground for at least 3 years now. Along with being the perfect arena for student role playing e.g.,
  • school architect
  • town planner
  • interior designer
  • conservationist
  • quantity surveyor
  • designers and engineers of all types,
I have found it to be one of those multifaceted applications that equips users with creativity and thinking skills that transfer well to other "workplaces".

As of March/April, we can now add gallery owner/art collector to the growing list of student roles.

The grade 3's are currently doing a unit of inquiry into forms of human expression. After researching master painters - with the idea of becoming the classroom guru on their artist of choice, they got to work building a collection for display. By placing resources on Webucation we were able to spend more time on the building the collection. But, that wasn't the only thing they built.

After a class dedicated to Sketchup Construction, the kids got busy importing chosen work into their brand new galleries.

The Monet Gallery with glass roof! Why not?

The carpet stops visitors getting too close to the exhibits.

Once inside, the "Look Around" and "Pan" tools
give the students a chance to practice their
developing art appreciation skills.
